WHO ARE WE
Kakolum means in Diola – the majority language of the Ziguinchor region, in southern Senegal – the footprint left when walking on the ground. This name aims to reflect one of the pillars of the NGO: to ensure that the actions undertaken leave their mark and remain sustainable once started, ensuring that local communities can guarantee their continuity over time.
Kakolum is an NGO that was born from close and permanent contact with the communities with which it works. It pursues responsible cooperation in which the beneficiaries of the projects have the main role in the way in which they carry out the actions and in their meaning, giving a special role to the participating women.

Kakolum is made up of people with experience in development cooperation in West Africa; with extensive knowledge of the context in which the actions are developed and with motivation to undertake quality projects.
WHAT DO WE DO
Sustainable agriculture and food security
We carry out projects together with local women's associations to improve the means and knowledge they have and allow the agricultural work they do to provide a stable source of income for their families and guarantee their food security.
Environmental conservation

We raise awareness and involve the local population in actions with the aim of reducing the pollution footprint that threatens the planet, we generate innovative projects that allow us to transform waste into products that can be sold on the local market.
Defense, promotion and guarantee of women's rights
We carry out actions focused on the promotion and guarantee of human rights and the fight against sexist violence, with the participation of women and youth associations as protagonists, involving them in raising awareness in their communities. We work on a program focused on improving sexual and reproductive health in the Ziguinchor region.
Water and sanitation and infrastructure
We rehabilitate and build public infrastructures such as schools and health centers. We provide access to water and sanitation to rural communities.
